Tourism Is Win, Win, Win
The Chamber pulled out all the stops and more than 500 members rallied to support the State's "Pure Michigan" advertising budget, threatened with funding
cuts. The Chamber's call to action told legislators in no uncertain terms that this region depends on tourism. The campaign has generated significant numbers of out-of-state travelers, and has shown that for every $1 invested to bring tourists to our State, the State reaps $3+ in return. The fight is not over, and the Chamber continues to advoate for this important funding.
Something Fishy!
Chambers of Commerce throughout the Midwest are calling for the immediate closure of the Chicago lock system to halt Asian Carp from entering the Great Lakes until the locks can be reviewed and prevention techniques can be put in place. The fish are large, extremely aggressive,
and consume vast amounts of food, which would disrupt the food chain of native Great Lakes species and hamper their survival. Asian Carp can weigh up to 100 pounds and can grow to a length of more than four feet.
